Doing it Gypsy Style - Mount Airy Casino & Resort - Mt. Pocono, PA

My friend Michelle visited the Mt. Airy Casino-Resort and posted this as my guest.

The Poconos has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor sports and recreation, but we also have some sophisticated hot spots to tempt you out at night. One of these is Mount Airy Casino, easy to find off of Rt. 611 in Mount Pocono. Of course, there’s plenty of gambling and fabulous food, exciting events and even horse-drawn carriage rides around the golf course. I went for one thing and one thing only. To dance.

Mount Airy has three bars to choose from. A slinky piano bar called Red’s. The Glass Bar, smack dab in the middle of the casino floor. And Gypsies Lounge, touting dance parties every weekend. My friends and I set out on a Friday for a wild night of gypsy madness.

We strolled in ready to rock the place but unfortunately, didn’t find the salacious scene we were hungering for. Actually it was sort of slow when we got there around 10:30 PM. On the other hand, it was absolutely gorgeous. Looking around, it seemed popular with the 40+ crowd, but there were younger fun-lovers along with plenty of couples ready to get dirty on the dance floor.

Shimmying up to the bar for some drinks, we found the bartenders both quick to serve and generous with the alcohol. In fact my friend had to ask for more juice in hers after the vodka nearly knocked her socks, I mean stilettos, off. Not ones to sit at the bar sipping away, we sashayed straight out to dance.

The DJ was playing a pretty eclectic mix of hip-hop, R&B, salsa and other Latin music that immediately got us moving. TVs overhung the floor with silhouetted divas sexily swaying away. Comfy couches and low tables lined the edge where we could rest our drinks and chit chat away. The lighting and sound systems were incredible. The atmosphere… definitely more chic lounge than naughty night club.

After hogging as much of the dance scene as possible, we spent some time posing for the paparazzi (okay, our friends’ cell phones) then decided to call it a night. Amen for the shuttle service that got us through the frigid air and back to our car. So was Gypsy’s fun? Yes. Was it worth the travel? Yes. Was it a wild gypsy dance party? No, not that night.  But it was definitely worth giving another try sometime soon!
