52 Weekends in the Poconos

        Gennaro Ruggiero is celebrating his 87th birthday today. The founder of Ruggiero Real Estate in 1978, he has grown his company into the largest real estate company in Northeast Pa - Century 21 Select Group. Geno has touched many lives and helped many of us grow both personally and professionally - me included! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!   

The December 29th issue of the Pocono Record's Real Estate section featured an article on buying a vacation home.  It quoted an article in Marketwatch.com in which the Poconos ranked 3rd in the top 10 places to buy a vacation home in the US.  Based on the sales price and potential rental income, along with the 4 Seasons of recreation offered and the close proximity to Manhattan - it is a gem; I'd have to agree with the article.  

I am so excited about June.   As I was driving  through White Haven yesterday, it was thrilling to see all of the cars toting bicycles and heading to the Lehigh Gorge for a fun day of riding.  It's about 25 miles from the town of White Haven to Jim Thorpe, but the first time I did it, it felt like 100!  The ride of about 10 miles to Rockport is easy and there is a little trail off to the right that takes you to a beautiful waterfall.  Then it's about 15 miles to Jim Thorpe.  It's a slight grade...

The Lehigh River comes from the Lenape Indian name for river,  Lechewuekink, 

meaning "where there are forks".  It originates from a series of glacial bogs on the PoconoPlateau.  The upper portion of the Lehigh is considered a coldwater, freestone stream and has that characteristic Pocono tannic stain. Water is supplied to the Lehigh from three sources: snow melt, rain and feeder streams.
