Senior Citizens - Not Ready to Sell Your Home?

Blog Senior Citizens

Have you considered moving to a senior living environment?  Or maybe you have been speaking with family and are considering moving in with a son or daughter?

You may be thinking about leaving the family home with all the comfort and memories – where you raised the children, the special holiday memories, the items you have come to cherish.   Your home may represent some of the best years of your life.

Many seniors prefer to remain living in their own home.  However, sometimes circumstances work against you.  Maybe taking care of the grounds has become too much.  Perhaps a serious health issue makes remaining in your home difficult.  Living closer to adult children may make more sense.  Or financial concerns may have you worried.  Does the area you currently live in have easy access to needed support services.

Whatever the concerns, there may be a time soon when you should have conversations with your adult children and discuss selling and moving on.

Perhaps you have bought and sold homes previously.  Selling a senior’s home can be much more complicated because of the issues and the number of people involved.  It’s not uncommon to have adult children help you sort through all the questions:

Is moving your best alternative.  Have you considered the other options?

Is everyone in agreement with you making a move?

How do you handle the lifetime’s worth of possessions and family heirlooms?

What about the tax implications of a sale?

These concerns and the emotional issues involved can be stressful for your family to navigate.  As a real estate professional that has experience in senior’s issues, I can help put you in contact with professional advisors and I can be an invaluable resource during this time.  You can count on me to guide you through the process.
